When?

Today, I thought I’d explain how I work. When and why I do what I do. The biggest question that I get in my email is, “When will […] come out?” Not that I’m complaining about this, no! But, I do get a lot of them, and sometimes I just don’t feel like answering them. If I’m in a bad mood, I immediately delete them. Nothing personal. I know that a lot of folks get excited, and just have to know when something will be released. I’m the same way. We can’t help it.
So, when will […] be released/available/made public? The answer: . . . I honestly don’t know. I don’t set a goal date, and I work on things both when I please & when I have the time. Things will be finished when they’re finished. I don’t rush (although I’m a fast worker!). Of course, if I took my own advice to Becky and just jumped right back into projects, they’d get done . . . but I’m not in the mood.
Mood plays a big part in my work. If I’m not in the mood to draw or paint on the computer, I’m not going to. The same goes for being in a bad mood. The quality of the work would simply suffer, and I’d have to redo everything. I don’t think you would all enjoy sub-par work from me, would you?
Time. There’s not enough of it! Having so many personal interests is a curse, because I don’t have enough time to pursue them all. And, that’s on top of work and home life. So, things have to be prioritized. If I had much of a social life, I don’t think I’d get anything done.
About the only thing that does have set completion dates (roughly) are things like contests and special holiday items.
So, I don’t know what’s coming next. It’s as much of a mystery to me as it is to you.
The Disney Experience is dead.
If you’re referring to the malware that infected the files on the server a couple of days ago, that has been cleared up. Many websites were hit with it.
If you’re referring to the lack of any real updates . . . I’d say that it’s a sleeping giant.
If that was a threat, well . . .

Having raised two kids to adulthood, that alone is a full time job, but it’s also a treasure trove of memories that shouldn’t be slighted for time as they occur along the path. With them, more or less, on their own, there thankfully is gainful employment and some social life to take up the slack and always a good book. Creativity is something that can’t be forced. I used to sketch and cartoon a lot of time away, but life sort of put that on hold and work often sucked all the creativity away.
Knowing you will, do what you have to do and your true fans will wait for when those creative juices begin to flow and wonderful new nuggets are shared with the world. Thanks for all the things you created to date.
Totally understand. The creative process takes time – and what it is, is what it is. All your creations are worth the wait.
I think your work is amazing. I have only found less than a handfull of people that do what you do for the reasons you do them and while I do get excited and impatient for the completion of your work and the publishing I have not been disappointed. In my business work there are enough deadlines and “have to” that I do not want the same restrictions in my fun times.
Keep doing what you are doing, Sam. Do what gives you pleasure and artistic, emotional and spiritual release. Take care of youself and the fun things will help take care of you in the proper time.

I hear that! That little “model that must not be named” that I’ve been working on for 4 years now is taking up most of my desk at the moment. It reached 39cm high and 59cm wide before I needed to take a break. On top of new design work I rebuilt and redesigned everything I had done before.
But now it needs to vacate the premesis. I have to clear space (somewhere) to put it in safe storage while I do other projects. Most notably stripping, sanding and refinishing steel which creates a lot of dust. A big part of my life is spent repairing and restoring old toy trains and I’m more in the mood to start those projects that will debut in November than I am for doing art with electrons. So that model will be on hold once again.
