We’re Back, Sans SSL
UPDATE: I just got an email from HostGator. The SSL is back up and running; woo-hoo! It was something on their end.
Oh, what a headache. Well, the website back from being down nearly all day. I hope you didn’t worry too much; I worried enough for you. It’s always unsettling to try something new and have it not play well.
A couple of days ago, I implemented SSL on the website so that everything would be nice and secure. Not that the website absolutely needed it, but it’s always nice to know that information being sent from your computer is nice and secure. The only thing that absolutely requires SSL is when you’re making a donation. Since that part is securely handled by PayPal, there’s never been any problem there.
Everything decided to go wonky around midnight as I was trying to fix an annoying bug that redirected the Nava Designs website to this website. I reverted the changes that may have caused the problem, but that didn’t fix anything. So, it was time to have a chat with the HostGator‘s customer support. The representative was friendly, and escalated the problem to the technicians.
In the meantime, I spent all day searching for a solution. Nothing that I did seemed to make any changes; the website just didn’t want to work. I was finally able to clean up some code and get the website back up and running, but it required disabling the SSL. Then, I had to clean up some messy URLs so that images and hyperlinks would work again.
The Disney Experience may not have full SSL (yet), but I’m just glad that I was able to get the website back up – especially with all of the fun stuff planned for this month.
