“The Nightmare Before Christmas” Tarot Deck
See your past, present, and possible future with a Disney Halloween twist with the “Nightmare Before Christmas” tarot deck and guidebook.
I LOVE Halloween, the macabre, and the occult. If it’s creepy or spooky, I’m interested—movies, books, music, decorations, costumes, you name it! Of course, only from an entertainment point of view. So, when I saw that there was a “Nightmare Before Christmas” tarot deck coming out (I like tarot cards and readings), my interest was piqued.
The set comes in a small box simply containing a 128-page guidebook and a fully illustrated 78-card tarot deck. Both are removed by pulling on a purple ribbon.
The guidebook is written by Minerva Siegal, an experienced author and practitioner of divination. In the guidebook, she lists the descriptions and meanings of the 22 Major Arcana cards which tell the story of the Fool—the first card in the series appropriately illustrating Jack Skellington. These cards represent “important themes and life lessons with lasting impact.”
The remaining 56 cards are the Minor Arcana, which depict everyday situations.
The end of the guidebook briefly glances over deck care, and it provides three “Nightmare Before Christmas” themed card spreads.
What really sold me on the tarot deck was the artwork by Abigail Larson, a Hugo Award-winning illustrator. The images have a dark, Gothic feel, and they look perfectly creepy and beautiful at the same time.
Now, I have to figure out what to do with the tarot deck—I got it for the artwork, and I don’t practice tarot reading. I did look into the craft a little bit, and it seems to be very open. Rules are loose and primarily rely on an individual’s intuition, interpretation, and personal preferences. There are also many different card spreads that can be used, each designed for a different purpose.
For now, I will keep them in their box for periodic viewing.
