“Star Wars” Week, 2023
It grieves me to say that there will be no “Star Wars” Week this year. Here is why.
In 2021, my Stepmother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. After removal of the mass and a year of chemotherapy, the cancer had returned and was debilitating to the point that I had to take care of her full time. This was in addition to already taking care of my Dad, a multiple stroke victim, full time. You will no doubt have noticed a severe lack of activity on the Disney Experience since October, 2022.
This past March, the cancer finally took my Stepmother in her sleep as I monitored her. The stress of having to care for a family member and witness their slow decline was finally lifted. But, new burdens cropped up.
I am the sole caretaker of . . . everything. I care for my Dad, the pets (inside and out), the house, the yard, the bills, the financial accounts, the shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, doctor appointments, prescription refills . . . literally everything. Now, I have to manage a funeral (that’s finally over), close bank accounts, handle my Stepmother’s physical estate, pay off credit cards, and deal with anything that will eventually rear its ugly head.
Basically, I am swamped. I was hoping to eventually get back to posting regularly here, but it looks like it’s going to be a while still. I’ve been my Dad’s caregiver for about 3 years now, being on call 24/7. With no one to regularly watch my Dad, I can’t get out and do things. Sure, my Sister and Nephew come over a couple of times a week when I need to run errands, but I barely have time to get what I need done. When I get the chance, I am taking a little break and finally going to Disneyland. I may even stay a night or two on property.
In the meantime, I have been slowly working on a couple of new personal projects. It feels so good both to be creative and to work with my hands again.

Being a caretaker to that extent takes up so much of your life! We can relate so much here, as we’ve been in a similar situation the last three years or so. I just wanted to say how much of a blessing this site has been in the past, and I look forward to the creativity that will come in the future. In the meantime, I pray for many moments where you can find rest and peace, and of course great Disney memories too.
